Learning Targets:
Cite evidence in text to determine the central ideas. (RI.9-10.1 and RI.9-10.2) Analyze how the author develops his or her ideas through specific sentences (RI.9-10.5) Articles from NewselaClick this link to go to Newsela. Once there sign up or sign in to your educator account. Once you have an account, you will see three assigned articles. Everyone will read "Middle school's "cool kids" may stumble afterward" with your partner. I will demonstrate the highlighting strategy to use with one of the texts. You will take turns reading with your partner, and highlighting the text evidence you find. Yellow suggests that your age is tied to growing up. Green suggests that external events are tied to growing up. Blue suggests that personal choices are tied to growing up. Pink is for the quote that you believe is most important in the text. We will then use Save the Last Word for Me to have a discussion in groups about one of the texts. Then you will choose another text from this text set that you would like to read with your partner. Use the highlighting strategy, and complete the evidence sheet for that article. |
